GCPS Concerns And Attempted Resolutions

About

This website is a “blog” which is a contraction of the two words “web log”. The purpose is simply to log all information surrounding the concerns I’ve expressed and for all parties involved to be able to review theses communications in an easy to access format. The goal is to reduce confusion and expedite results.

Statement Of Purpose

Children are being left stranded at GCPS bus stops. In many cases the county is completely unaware of the situation and in others appearances would suggest indifference. This is all in writing and posted for people to review and decide for themselves. There is no GCPS policy for children and parents to reference in this event. Children are left, in many cases without the assistance of a parent, to decide what to do. School age children do not have the capacity to make the appropriate decisions. It has been my personal experience that during these events the stranded children are found to be milling about aimlessly in the street.

During the course of attempting to resolve this past incident I had separate requests while on the phone with Roger Clark, Linda Anderson and Phillip Duffy to recite content from previous e-mails. Being that I’ve found it difficult to organize these messages between the three computers that I use, I decided to compile these messages in this blog. Messages are compiled in descending chronological order. Messages were copied and pasted directly from my e-mails to the blog and are posted without any edits. This can be independently verified by the original sender and/or recipient and by the GCPS mail server administrator if necessary.

My accountings of telephone conversations are posted to the best of my recollection. My preference is to have all correspondence in a written format, but GCPS is often not accommodating in this regard.

It is my belief that these transportation and communications shortcomings as experienced by my family are relatively simple to address and correct.

Mission Statement

It is my mission to do my best to facilitate and ensure that GCPS transportation establishes and maintains contingency plans, safeguards and policy in the event of any unforeseen circumstances that would prevent a school bus (driver) from picking up a normally scheduled, county appointed bus stop so that these children and their parents can be promptly informed to ensure safety and to coordinate a contingency transportation plan.

It is also my goal to see to it that specific language is spelled out regarding these policies and guidelines along with the appropriate contact information in all future GCPS Student/Parent Handbooks.

I have already offered suggestions concerning these issues and stand ready to assist should GCPS make any such request.
